Marlboro Men & Uptown Guys Do Skin Care

Women don’t have an exclusive on “beauty products” to improve their appearance. The increased popularity of men’s skin care products among Marlboro men to uptown guys, only proves that men like women want to look good and young.   After all, men are every bit as vain as women.  We live in an age where men can freely express their need for skin care products without feeling any kind of embarrassment.

The  male skin is oily, with larger pores,  and an increased a tendency to “sweat.”  Men are less prone to wrinkling than women, but still require deep daily cleansing.   In a man’s skin, the dermis is thicker and richer in collagen, and the epidermis is often more oily.  Therefore, it’s  more resistant than a woman’s skin to the effects of the sun and other environmental factors.

Between the ages of 40 to 50 years, the dermis layer of a man’s skin thins, and the level of collagen naturally decreases, causing deeper wrinkles.   Men can prevent and correct the signs of aging with proper skin care.  So men, if you have decided it’s time to take care of your skin, you must know the skin type you have to decide which care regimen is best.

Your skin can either be dry, oily, normal, sensitive, or a combination. If you are active and exercise regularly you’re more prone to have skin problems because your skin requires proper cleansing, protection from the sun, sweat, and wind due to your active lifestyle.

Many men, unlike my husband, have a fitness regimen, a budget, and a daily schedule. You must keep in mind that taking care of your skin doesn’t have to mean spending several hours in the bathroom. Low maintenance guys love “simple and quick,” and high maintenance think the “more the better.” You can start a simple skin care routine to keep your skin looking and feeling its best whether you are low or high maintenance.

So let’s start by defining skin types:

Normal Skin: The pores of normal skin are small and the overall skin tone is even. You haven’t experienced dry skin or excessive oil on the skin.

Oily Skin: As its name implies, oily skin feels slightly to moderately greasy. If you have oily skin, your pores are medium to large and prone to blockage. You probably have problems with pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.

Dry Skin:  Your skin characteristically feels tight and itchy. Winter takes it toll on this skin type.   Dry skin is usually thinner than normal skin and may even be slightly rough to the touch and possibly a bit irritated.

Sensitive Skin:  Your skin is prone to rashes and breakouts from various irritants such as sun, perfumes, shaving cream, temperature extremes, and even soap. You must be careful to avoid products with dyes, perfumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients that may irritate your skin.

Combination Skin: This skin type has both dry and oily patches. Most commonly, combination skin exhibits an oily “T-Zone” (forehead, nose and chin) with dry skin on the cheeks and around the eyes.
